Playa Bollullo is still closed after more landslides from the cliffs above the beach, affecting the access path to the beach itself. For this reason, the mayor of La Villa, Francisco Linares, reports that the respective technical checks have been carried out. After the assessment, he announced, "from December 30, and access to this beach is closed," stressing that "the safety of users is a priority". The beach is secluded and about 2km east of Puerto de la Cruz and is not widely known to tourists.
Large rocks have fallen in an area recently and have fallen onto the footpath. Last July, there was a significant landslide in the area that forced the closure of the beach for a few months. A mesh and reinforcing were placed on the affected area. However, this did not fix the problem rockfall problem.
"So now, it will be necessary to place the protection along the entire slope," said Linares. In January, budgets will be requested to carry out these works and to be able to prepare the entire slope and open the access when safety can be guaranteed. Next week, the municipal engineers will study the cliff's condition in greater detail and work out the actions required.
