Día de la Embarcación

The town of Puerto de la Cruz is paying tribute to Our Lady of El Carmen, a famous religious feast. On July 16, a statue of the Virgin Mary is carried by boat on a procession at sea as hundreds of people gather at the fishing harbour to join the celebrations. The image of the virgin is taken by boat while a large crowd of people at Playa del Muelle. Other activities include La Cucaña (a Canarian version of “Climbing the Greasy Pole”), dances, traditional food and children’s specials. There is also dancing, meals, and activities for the little ones.
