We left the North of Tenerife to travel south. The bus had to come down a very windey road from the mountains. We were nearly sick! It was like being on a ride at Alton Towers for hour and a half in hot temperatures. The buses are the only public transport on the Island, we have found them reliable, but on this occasion could not wait to get off.

Booked another four star hotel in Puerto de Santiago, a low key coastal resort. The Barceló Hotel is not the same standard as the four star Beatriz Hotel in Puerto del la Cruz; however we are happy to stay for a couple of days to have a look around.

At the Barceló Hotel Breakfasts were good, lots to choose from. Our room is basic, we have a balcony with a bit of a sea view. Went to have a drink by the pool, where I noticed people were wearing colour bands on their wrists. I thought they had joined a swimming club, I did not realize it was an all-Inclusive Hotel. I think this Hotel is good for families.

We went out, and found a nice restaurant along the seafront. We had our favourite pasta with garlic olive oil, and chili served with a Greek salad. The next night went to ‘The Fisherman’s Inn’ restaurant. The owner was a right character who had been married eight times. He insisted we joined him for honey rum drinks. We would recommend trying the homemade fish cakes here.

From this Hotel you can walk to Los Gigantes. This is a small town, it is worth a look around. There is a Marina here with little restaurants around.

We just happened to be in this resort, and they had a fire work display. I’m not exaggerating when I say we have never seen anything like it in our life. Estimate thousands of pounds of fireworks. The sky was just beautiful with an array of colour, some fireworks floated down on little parachutes.

One last thing. I must say while we were staying here, a Spanish man stopped us to ask us directions, and Pete gave them to him! Our Spanish is improving………
