Tenerife Severe Weather Alert Ends

The Director General of Security and Emergency for the Canary Islands has ended the alert for high winds on Tenerife as of 18:00 hours on Tuesday. The alert for adverse sea conditions has also been ended for the island.

The storm that hit the Tenerife and all the Canary Islands on Sunday brought gusts of up to 130 kilometres per hour, waves of up to seven meters and torrential rain.

There has been a single fatality on the Canary Islands to a 26 year old German tourist who was out walking on La Gomera when he was hit by a rock slide.

There was also damage to building and crops, mainly bananas on Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

The storm also caused the closure of schools on Tenerife, flight cancellations and the closure of the sea port of Los Cristianos.

The storm has now passed and flight and sailings are back to normal, the weather forecast for Tenerife for the rest of this week is very unsettled, with cloud and showers, and still windy.
