Strange Events at the Arenas Hotel in El Medano

Strange Events at the Arenas Hotel in El Medano

I had an interesting experience while staying at the Arenas del Mar Hotel in El Medano. During the night I saw a Spanish woman standing at the end of my bed. She quite simply threw a white sheet over the bed as if she was making the bed up. She had very thick jet black hair piled on top of her head. Later that same night my name was called out that woke me up, and I felt a bit uneasy.

Next morning, a bit unsure how to go about things, I said to Pete ‘do you feel this room has a strange feel to it’? He said that he did not. Our room was decorated brightly in contemporary style with a fabulous sea view. The building of the Hotel was modern, and I thought if I was going to experience anything, surely that would have happened somewhere like the Bishops Palace we stayed in at La Laguna.

Haunted Hotel El Medano Tenerife

My curiosity got the better of me, and I went to speak to the receptionist that had checked us in. I asked her what had been here before the Hotel. She looked at me and said ‘sand, rocks and water of course’. The Hotel is right on the beach. A male receptionist interrupted, and said no that’s not right.

The Hotel had been refurbished and is only about four years old. He said it used to be Hotel Atlantic Playa, which was on the site for over twenty years. I thanked the man, and said I wanted to do some research about the past here. He looked at me as if to say why. So I told him I just wanted to find out more about the history here. He said you have seen something haven’t you? I was a bit surprised, but had a feeling I could tell him what had happened.

He confirmed the Hotel did indeed have a Ghost, and the staff did not want to work alone in certain areas. Most of the disturbances went on downstairs in the disco bar, but strange things had been reported from the fifth floor as well, which is where our room was.

He took the whole thing very seriously, and offered to move me to another floor. I told him that was not necessary, I was interested but not frightened. He said he believed in spirits, and the Ghost in the Hotel had never harmed anyone.

I returned to the terrace, where Pete was enjoying a large Gin and tonic to tell him my findings. He then ordered another Gin! And said the lady had probably worked in the old Hotel, and was still there in spirit looking after the rooms………..
