North Tenerife,rain today
North Tenerife, what a difference. We have been used to cloudless skies in our few days in the south of Tenerife, but here there have been overcast skies for much of the time. We have had torrential rain, low temperatures and high winds. We had been expecting the cooler climate and also bear in mind it is January.
Yesterday we were enjoying a glass of wine in one of the promenade cafes, and we could see some ‘disturbance’ on the sea surface a few hundred yards out. We realised this was torrential rain and watched as it came in onto the promenade, everyone diving for cover in the cafés. Within seconds the prom had become deserted.
The crowd here is much older, probably due to the milder climate and comfortable temperature. They are not here to lie on the beach and get a tan.
The resort where we are staying is Puerto de la Cruz, and is more sophisticated than the brash resorts around Playa de las Americas. Here people are out for coffee or a glass of wine in one of the promenade cafes, and in the evenings out of dinner, or in the cafes for some music.
