La Gomera Forest Fires Still Burning

The fires in La Gomera are still burning but the anger is growing from the islanders who have lost their homes, crops and animals. They are furious over the way the emergency has been handled. The islanders are asking why they have been left to cope without professional firemen or helicopters.

The question is being asked why the arrival of air support came so late, and why the creation of a permanent base of air support, that has been suggested for years, has not happened. There are also some suggestions that the wrong paper work was responsible for the delay of the deployments of helicopters.
