Candelaria Tenerife
Walked along promenade from Las Caletillas (where we are staying) to the main town Candelaria. On arrival had our lunch on the beach, actually this was part of our buffet breakfast! (Have to be resourceful if we are going to make it round the Island!) The focal point of Candelaria is the grand church characterized by a tall bell-tower. See the pictures below. Inside is well worth a look around, and in the square are nine intriguing outsize statues (Pete is pictured standing next to one ) These men are the Guanche chiefs from the ancient people that inhabited Tenerife for thousands of years, before the Spanish conquest. I think it is such a shame that people just do not realize the history here. Not all but a fare few just have one too many in Las Americas, and fly home!
