Staying on at the Hotel Beatriz

Decided to stay on at Hotel Beatriz, quite happy here, have more to cover in this area. Today we hired a car so we could explore further North. Drove to a coastal resort called Punta del Hidalgo, this is on the North flank of the Anaga Mountains.

I had read the sea is very rough and rocky there, so it is recommended that you swim in the “natural pools”.  These pools are interesting, people were swimming and the waves come crashing over the barriers onto them, but they are quite safe in there.

Unfortunately a sad incident occurred while we were there; someone had fallen over the edge of the promenade onto the rocks below and died. There were medics, police, plus a couple of reporters arrived on the scene. Then we saw a Spanish family come down from one of the little alleyways, the women just collapsed on the floor, obviously close to the person who had fallen. There was a sombre mood along the promenade.

We travelled on to the next resort called Bajamar. Both resorts are low key and quiet, I felt like being quiet myself after the earlier incident. So we found a little café on the seafront, they had Sencha tea, most welcome in my world. The Spanish lady made us delicious crepes. They speak no English in these resorts.

We are now back at our Hotel, tired after today, just going to go out and get McDonald’s!  Pete is now adding Tenerife’s news items to our web site, so the tragedy will probably unfold a bit more tomorrow.
