More Food in Puerto de la Cruz
I have been practising my Spanish in the restaurants. Here in Puerto de la Cruz the waiters speak very little English, so it’s an opportunity to practise. I wanted an iced coffee and after a bit of the dialect I have picked up, I was served a hot coffee and a glass of ice. I made my own, it was delicious.
If you go off down the cobbled side streets, away from the main tourist parts you will find hidden gems of eating places that will serve you proper Canarian food, good wine, and homemade desserts. These meals are half the price of the tourist places, and more enjoyable. One of my favourite has been a Canarian house turned into a little restaurant. I knew the food would be good as they did not have a big menu; also the Spanish eat at this restaurant. The woman who served us was delighted that we asked for everything in Spanish.
