Fires in Tenerife Update

The three new fires that have started on Tenerife today are reported by the Council of Tenerife to be under control. The fire that started in the area of Los Realejos, came under control at19:55 and has affected 12 hectares. The fire at Las Montañetas, came under control 19:33 has affected 2 acres.

At 17:12 this afternoon the alarm was raised in La Orotava above La Caldera where 2 acres were burnt, this fire was controled at 20:55.

These fires are being started deliberately. The Islands President has called for those responsible to be arrested, and said it is necessary to “stop these thugs or we will have a nightmare”.

The weather conditions this year have made it very easy to start fires with a drought and five heatwaves so far and strong winds.
