Diving and the Seahorse Trust in Tenerife

I have always loved Seahorses, I think of them as mystical little creatures. They are actually quite intelligent. When we were in Tenerife recently we went to visit Loro Parque and I was surprised to see the Parque had Seahorses there in the aquarium.

Since returning I have done some research and found out there is a place near to Los Gigantes that is a home to Seahorses. This is a real treat for divers, read my write up on Diving in Tenerife. The diving school at Los Gigantes work with the Seahorse Trust, and at one time were working with the Trust to tag some of the Seahorses. This is because too many are being taken into captivity.

I remember reading that one of the divers assigned with the job of tagging the little creatures was worried if this was a good idea, as they are so small. However his worries were put to rest when he revisited the spot where he had tagged the first Seahorse, only to see that the little creature had managed to hook the tag round a hard piece of seaweed, and was then moving the bottom half of its body in such a way that he completely removed the tag!
